Black Cohosh Liver Warning

In very rare cases, Black Cohosh may cause liver harm in susceptible individuals. Discontinue use and seek medical advice if any of the following symptoms occur:

  • Yellowing of the skin
  • Yellowing of the whites of the eyes
  • Dark urine
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Unusual tiredness
  • Weakness
  • Stomach or abdominal pain
  • Loss of appetite

Licorice-Related Warnings

Due to the Licorice content:

  • Use caution in individuals with elevated liver enzymes taking immunosuppressive medications.
  • Contraindicated in:
    • Hypertension
    • Oedema
    • Individuals taking thiazide diuretics
    • Individuals taking loop diuretics

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated during pregnancy.
  • Contraindicated during breastfeeding/lactation.

Additional Precautions

  • Use caution in patients taking statin medications.
  • Discontinue use 7 days prior to general anaesthesia.
